Aam Admi Party has announced the names of the party candidates on six of seven seats Delhi for the upcoming elections thus, ending the speculations of its alliance with Congress.
Delhi AAP convener, Gopal Rai announced the names of the candidates.
Atishi from East Delhi
Raghav Chaddha from South Delhi
Pankaj Gupta from Chandni Chowk
Dilip Pandey from North East Delhi
Gugan Singh from North West Delhi
And lastly, Brajesh Goel from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
For the last and final seat in West Delhi, a candidate is yet to be decided.
The announcement came right a day after Congress approached AAP for an alliance in Delhi.
According to sources, the Congress’ top brass had agreed to initiate the alliance talks with AAP however, there was stiff resistance from the other side.
The Delhi Government party had been sending tentative proposals to the Congress leadership for a pre-poll tie-up for quite a while, but it was being rebuffed.
Delhi CM, Kejriwal recently said that his party was tired of convincing Congress for an alliance.
Opposition leaders such as Chandrababu Naidu and Mamata Banerjee had reportedly previously urged Rahul Gandhi to forge an alliance with AAP in Delhi but as the Delhi unit of the Congress is led by former CM Sheila Dikshit, the idea was proved tricky.
On Friday, Dikshit held a meeting with three working presidents of the party to discuss the issue of forming an alliance, where they were firm of not having an alliance with AAP.
