Finance minister Arun Jaitley claimed on Thursday that if BJP will be brought back to power in the upcoming elections, they will continue with fiscal consolidation and pursue policies to enable further reduction in interest rates after the central bank cut its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points while speaking at an industry event.
The elections will begin in the coming week and cover several weeks before the results will be announced on 23rd May.
Jaitley also said the government will look at reducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on cement. The GST tax implemented by BJP in 2017 has been a topic of debate ever since it started.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be seeking a second term in the general elections
